I am thinking that there will be two versions of the game, each with 2 alien races and 1 playmat.
For example:
- Version 1: Mars vs Luna
- Version 2: Neptune vs Ganymede
The main game will be 2-player.
People could then buy the other version to get 2 more alien races and the extra playmat, to have variety plus the extra playmat would allow for 3 - 4 player games.
It's either that OR I just have a full set with all 4 races and 2 playmats. Still deciding.
In any cases, the 4 races (Mars, Luna, Neptune and Ganymede) are all quite different in the way they play when using their special abilities.
Mars is appropriately more aggressive, able to destroy more enemy ships using explosions and actually forming new 'Fireships' from previous explosions.
Luna is more about proliferation, with hordes of special 'Microships' that can quickly cover the board.
Ganymede is fast and furious, with abilities that allow for successive turns and the chance to use more cards and have more choices.
Neptune is very strategic, with special ships that can lock areas and are harder to destroy.
