TEAM CHEMISTRY
Get Your Group Into The Mix!
You’ve assembled the elements and now it’s time to carefully combine them. People with differing skill sets, experience and personalities. How will they mix? Creating a team can be like an exercise in chemistry!
1. ANALYZE YOUR COMPONENTS
Study the properties of each element (each person). Use fun games and activities to ‘test’ their skills and qualities. The more data you collect, the more strategic your team creation will be! Look for a variety of strengths, and complementary attributes. Discover overlapping traits and opposing ones. By studying your team members, you will eventually form theories on how they may best integrate into a whole.
2. PREPARE THE ENVIRONMENT
Lab conditions must be ideal for a proper experiment! Take care to create the right kind of atmosphere for your team members to willingly) combine. Set the tone to simulate real-world experience and let the elements naturally gravitate into a working team. If the environment would normally include challenges, make sure to simulate those, also.
3. TRACK RESULTS
When it comes to the scientific process, it’s all about: Observation!
Watch the elements interact and (hopefully) merge into functional sub-groups. If all goes well, the sub-groups will evolve into one highly functioning team. This is your compound! Test results may be surprising, or may have been well predicted. In either case, you will have results that have meaning if you run future ‘experiments’. Ideally, you will have results that positively impact your team’s performance going forward!
